COLD SPRING -- Nathan Nietfeld went the distance on a six-hitter and was backed by Jason Kampsen's home run as Paynesville outlasted Melrose in an 8-5 ballgame Tuesday in Section 6AA action.
Nietfeld scattered six hits against the Dutchmen and allowed only two earned runs. He also struck out three and walked one.
His opponent, Cody Eichers, pitched six innings and allowed nine hits and five earned runs.
Aaron Savelkoul led the offensive charge for the Bulldogs by cracking a double and a triple. He crossed the plate twice and drove in a run.
Jason Kampsen crushed a long home run in the fourth inning to extend Paynesville's early lead.

Shane Kampsen swatted a two-run triple for the Bulldogs, while Jon Kerzman hit a single and a double for an RBI.
Jordan Prill drove in a run for the Dutchmen with a single. Eric Terres and Carter Sawyer hit doubles, but were left on base.
Tuesday's section win puts Paynesville at 16-4 on the season.

Staples-Motley 11, New London-Spicer 3
A six-run rally on seven hits by Staples-Motley led to the win in Section 6AA baseball.
Staples-Motley used the seven hits, an error and a hit batsman to break a 2-2 ball game in the bottom of the fourth.
The Wildcats' offense went toe-to-toe with the Cardinals by matching nine hits, but it could only score three runs. NLS stranded 10 men on the bases.
Gunner Johnson pitched a complete game for Staples-Motley. He scattered the nine hits for three runs and struck out five. He also hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Luke Reiter was saddled with the loss for NLS. He gave up six earned runs on eight hits in three innings of service. He walked two and struck out one.
Reiter hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning for the Wildcats.
Caleb Frederich and Andrew Clancy slapped two singles each for NLS.

Johnson drove in three runs for the Cardinals. Sam Duberowski also smacked two hits for two RBI.
