GLENWOOD - It wasn't a banner day for hitters with New York Mills' Derin Gaudette and BBE's Jackson Peter on the mound.
Jaguars hitters had trouble figuring out what to do with Gaudette's stuff, and the only Eagle who had much luck at the plate against Peter was Gaudette himself.
He did just enough, and it was all he needed.
Gaudette one-hit the Jaguars and he drove in the game's only runs with a two-run single in the top of the first as the Eagles forced a second game in the Section 6A championship with a 2-0 win on Friday at Minnewaska High School.
BBE defeated the Eagles 4-2 on Wednesday to move into the championship, and NYM found its way back into a battle for the section title by downing Parkers Prairie 2-0 in Friday's first game.
The Jags and Eagles meet in a winner-take-all championship game on Saturday.
In the first, NYM's Dylan Fischer and Logan Small hit back-to-back singles and both came around on Gaudette's two-out single.
For offense, that was about it. Gaudette walked Evan Wiener to lead off the second inning and Thaniel Cebulla followed with BBE's only hit. Gaudette and the Eagles ended the mini threat with a double play and a strikeout.
After that, Gaudette set down 17 of the next 18 Jaguars hitters, allowing only a two-out walk in the third. He retired the last 13 batters he faced and he struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.
Peter was every bit as good after allowing the two first-inning runs. Peter worked all seven innings, allowing six hits, no walks and he matched Gaudette with six strikeouts.
From the second to sixth innings, Peter retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced, allowing a harmless single in the fourth inning. He ran into a snag in the seventh, with two Eagles on with one out. But he recorded a strike out and got a ground out to end the inning.
