Prep baseball roundup: BOLD beats up ACGC

BIRD ISLAND - The BOLD baseball team played to the extremes on Thursday but still came away with two wins over ACGC.

The Warriors tore up the Falcons in game one, winning 18-0 in five innings. In game two, BOLD needed an extra frame to defeat ACGC 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Winning pitcher Tyler Seehusen two-hit the Falcons in game one. Two of Trevor Nissen’s three hts were doubles and he scored twice.

Riley Kramer, Trent Athmann and Tyler Rock all had two hits and combined to drive in eight runs.

In game two, Sawyer Tersteeg allowed a run and struck out five in four innings of relief to earn the win. Kramer had two hits and two RBIs and Lane Stadther had two hits.

ACGC’s Nick Peterson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Benson 11, YME 1

Freshman Connor Staton won in his first varsity start and the Braves converted eight hits and eight walks into enough runs to end the game by the 10-run rule after five innings on Thursday.

Chad Schwarz was 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs and Tanner Mikkelson was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Cody Hammerschmidt doubled in his lone official plate appearance. He walked three times, drove in twi runs and scored three.

Staton allowed an unearned run on four hits in five innings.

Blake Lindstrom was 2-for-2 and scored YME‘s run.

Benson is 5-2 overall and plays a doubleheader against ACGC on Tuesday in Benson.

Mac Beyer pitched a complete game with 10 punchouts and zero walks, and was 2-for-4 with a double.

Wabasso edged Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a pitchers’ duel where the teams combined for 20 strikeouts.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted bumped BBE twice in a conference doubleheader on Thursday in Elrosa.

The Jaguars, now 2-6, play Sauk Centre at 7 p.m. today in Elrosa.

BBE took a one-run lead with a four-run first in game one, but HLWW countered with five runs in the third to take command.

Tyler Wander had two hits, including a double, and James Kuefler doubled in two trips. He took the loss on the mound.

In game two, HLWW’s Joe Aalid two-hit the Jaguars, with Austin Imdieke reaching on a single and Dalon Bitzen doubling in two trips.

BBE pitcher Tom Cebulla threw well, allowing two earned runs on four hits over six innings, but he took the loss.

Dalton Asplin limited New London-Spicer to five hits while striking out eight and stifled a Wildcats rally in the seventh inning of a conference game on Thursday at Green Lake Diamond in Spicer.

Down 5-0 in their final at bat, the Wildcats put up two runs, one on Ryan Vraa’s solo homer, but couldn’t rebound completely before Asplin closed them out.

Jarrett Hatlestad has two hits and Nick Bergeson and Lucas Nordmeyer had the other NLS hits.

The Wildcats are 1-6 in the conference and 2-8 overall. They play at Montevideo at 7 p.m. today.
