MORRIS - The defending Class A champion BOLD baseball team picked up where it left off last spring, riding Logan Sandgren’s strong pitching performance and a balanced offense to a 10-1 win over Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Thursday.
Sandgren, who one-hit Osakis in last June’s state championship game, worked four innings against the Tigers, allowing one hit and striking out nine. He didn’t walk a batter.
Brett Grund pitched the final three innings, striking out three and allowing a sixth-inning run.
Sandgren also drove in three runs and Grund drove in two. Trent Athmann had two hits and scored three times.
Morris/CA’s Riley Biesterfeld, Corey Storck and Brady Jergenson had the team’s hits.

A solo home from Blake Karsch and some timely hitting manufactured three runs in the first inning and set the tone in Paynesville’s season opener played at Lake Henry. The Bulldogs pounded out 13 hits and invoked the 10-run rule with one out in the sixth.
Benefitting from all the offense was Jordan Roos. The 6-foot-4 senior struck out five and didn’t issue a walk in six complete innings of work.
Brandon Schleper and Nick Dingmann added three hits each for Paynesville, which put up three-run frames in the first, fourth and sixth.
Zac Enevolden knocked in Montevideo’s only run with a solo home run in the second.

Cody Hammerschmidt had two RBI doubles, and Tanner Mikkelson had two hits in Benson’s loss to Sauk Centre.
Aaron Ahrndt added a hit and two stolen bases, and scored three runs.
Chad Schwarz suffered the loss, giving up five runs in 2.2 innings.

Minnewaska banged out 11 hits for 12 runs, and Austin Ostrander homered in the Lakers’ second win.
Matt McIver, Ostrander and Jayden Beecher each had multi-hit nights, and McIver scored three runs.
The Sting had just four hits but benefitted from 12 walks off the Laker pitching staff.
Chase Richter scored three times and Dylan Johnson had a hit and two RBIs.
Jayden Beecher earned the win with 3.1 innings of work in relief.
