Prep Baseball Roundup: BOLD suffers 2nd straight loss

NEW ULM -- After opening with eight wins, the BOLD baseball suffered its second straight loss, falling to New Ulm Cathedral 6-4 on Saturday in a non-conference game.

NEW ULM - After opening with eight wins, the BOLD baseball suffered its second straight loss, falling to New Ulm Cathedral 6-4 on Saturday in a non-conference game.

Cathedral (10-2) scored four first-inning runs and tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to keep their distance from the defending Class A state champions.

Brandon Beranek homered and drove in three runs, and Michael Skillings worked five innings to get the win, backed by two innings of hitless relief from Russell Hoffman and Nathan Palmer.

Logan Sandgren tripled and drove in two runs and Trevor Nissen doubled, drove in a run and scored once.

Nissen took the loss. The Warriors hurt themselves with four errors and five walks.

The Warriors return to action Tuesday when they play at Montevideo for a West Central Conference game starting at 4:30 p.m.

MADISON - The Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles went 2-0 hosting a triangular on Saturday with Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (1-1) and Yellow Medicine East (0-2).

LQPV 6, YME 2

The Sting led 2-1 through four innings on RBI hits by Derrick Grund and Zach Fischer. Lac qui Parle Valley pushed four across in the bottom of the fifth using three walks and a two-run double by Austin Haas.

YME outhit the Eagles 6-3.

Dylan Lillejord went the distance for the win, walking two and striking out six.

In a game called after five innings due to rain, the Eagles improved to 10-4.

Garrett Olson threw the first four innings and Brandon Hill threw the fifth. The game, twice delayed by lightning, went into the sixth but when rain persisted the outcome reverted to the fifth.

Ty Kanstrup and Brandon Hill each supplied two hits and two RBI and Austin Haas had a triple and an RBI for the Eagles.

Alexandria tips Willmar

ALEXANDRIA - The Alexandria baseball team scored three runs in the fifth inning to overcome a Willmar lead and held on for a 7-4 victory on Friday.

Josh Tinklenberg and Cole Christensen both had two hits for Willmar and Austin Smith had one hit.

Toby Helgeson had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Alexandria.

Christensen took the loss in relief of starter Adam Nibaur.
