Prep baseball roundup: Cardinals knock off Sartell

SARTELL -- Adam Nibaur tossed six strong innings and Willmar picked up its second win 7-2 over Sartell in a Central Lakes Conference game on Thursday.

SARTELL - Adam Nibaur tossed six strong innings and Willmar picked up its second win 7-2 over Sartell in a Central Lakes Conference game on Thursday.

Nibaur didn’t walk a batter while fanning three and surrendering one earned run.

“Adam threw a super game … he kept his pitch count low and trusted our defense,” Willmar head coach Mark Stier said.

The Cardinal bats came alive, too, with a 10-hit attack led by a 3-for-4 night by Josh Tinklenberg.

Willmar scored twice in the first off Sartell starter Isaac Dammen and tacked on another in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

“We did a lot of little things during the game like sacrifice bunting and taking an extra base when we could,” Stier said. “This helped us to extend our early lead.”

The Cardinals notched two more in the fourth and seventh.

Brett Swanson and Nibaur doubled, and Cole Hagen tripled and scored twice.

Noah Vreeman and Swanson each had two hits, and Swanson drove in three runs.

The Cardinals host Hutchinson 3:30 p.m. Monday.
