Prep Baseball Roundup: CMCS stymies KMS

PRINSBURG -- Aaron Zwart, Austin Bulthuis and Tanner Stoel teamed up on a one-hitter as Central Minnesota Christian School defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 5-1 in a Camden Conference game on Tuesday.

PRINSBURG - Aaron Zwart, Austin Bulthuis and Tanner Stoel teamed up on a one-hitter as Central Minnesota Christian School defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 5-1 in a Camden Conference game on Tuesday.

Zwart allowed an unearned run and the lone hit in three innings, Bulthuis worked three perfect innings and struck out five, and Stoel pitch the seventh, striking out one.

Bulthuis also was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, Zwart also had two RBIs. Jake Meyer had two hits and Simon VanDyken was 1-for-2 and drove in a run.

Jordan Engler had KMS’ lone hit.

The Bluejays are 6-5 overall and open the Section 3A-North against MACCRAY at 1 p.m. Saturday in Madison.

MACCRAY used five pitchers on Tuesday, falling to Lakeview in eight innings in the regular-season finale for the Wolverines.

The teams combined for eight errors and MACCRAY left 13 on base.

Four players had two hits apiece for MACCRAY, Jack Dykema, Carter Asche, Cheyton Homan and Tyler Moffenbier. Dykema also had two RBIs.

Up next for the Wolverines will be Central Minnesota Christian School on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Madison in the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs.

Dassel-Cokato 4, NLS 1

Dassel-Cokato left-handed pitcher Michael Leffler stifled the New London-Spicer offense in a 4-1 Wright County Conference victory on Tuesday at Saints Field in Dassel.

D-C’s three-run fifth was the deciding blow.

“(Leffler) really held us down,” said NLS head coach Mike Thompson. “We didn’t do a lot at the plate.”

The Wildcats are 4-6 in the conference and 10-8 overall. They open the Section 3AA-North playoffs against Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Green Lake Diamond in Spicer.

BBE 8, USA 5

BBE had a pair of three-run innings and Jordan Wosmek tossed five strong innings to beat Upsala/Swanville Area in the Jaguars’ regular-season finale on Tuesday.

Tommy Cebulla, who went 3-for-4, keyed the fourth-inning rally with a two-run double.

Tanner Heinsius singled and scored twice, and Adrian Belden was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Wosmek struck out seven and didn’t allow an earned run to pick up the win for BBE.

The Jaguars open Section 5A tournament play on Thursday.
