EDEN VALLEY - Mitchel Macik was 3-for-4, three other Falcons picked up two hits each and Jordan Nelson slugged a two-run homer Friday as Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City upset No. 3-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins 10-3 in the opening round of the Section 5A-West playoffs.

The No. 6-seeded Falcons (6-10) will now take on No. 7-seed Royalton in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Cold Spring.

ACGC pushed across two runs in the first inning and extended its lead to 4-1 when Nelson launched a shot off EVW starter and loser Logan Linn in the third. Linn kept ACGC scoreless in the fourth, but he ran into trouble in the fifth as the Falcons plated six runs after sending up 11 batters to the plate.

A bases-loaded single from Austin Stein drove in two runs and RBI singles from Derek Dengerud and David Kinzler highlighted the ACGC fifth.

Brody Larson was the beneficiary from all of the offense as the junior worked all seven innings on the mound to collect the win. Larson scattered eight hits, two earned runs, four walks and four strikeouts.
