Prep Baseball Roundup: Five-run first helps LQPV stay unbeaten in Camden

MADISON -- The Eagles bounced their record to 3-0 in the Camden and 4-3 overall with a 9-1 win over Lakeview (1-2, 1-2) on Tuesday at Madison Memorial Park.

MADISON - The Eagles bounced their record to 3-0 in the Camden and 4-3 overall with a 9-1 win over Lakeview (1-2, 1-2) on Tuesday at Madison Memorial Park.

Three-straight two-out hits led to a five-run first for Lac qui Parle Valley. The hits were by Phil Kleven, Garrett Olson and Jon Nielson to account for four of the RBIs.

Austin Haas did the rest on the hill for LQPV. In six innings, he allowed an unearned run while giving up four hits, walking one and fanning nine. Olson threw the seventh.

Dylan Lillejord and Olson each doubled and tripled in a 13-hit offense for LQPV.

Cody Klabunde had three hits and drove in two runs, Brandon Behnke had two hits and two RBIs and Jake Schultz had two hits and drove in one in the Dragons’ Wright County Conference win on Tuesday in Litchfield.

Eddie Estrada connected for a solo home run.

Jacob Stevenson was a terror on the mound, working six strong innings and striking out 12 in a Wright County Conference victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday at Green Lake Diamond.

Waconia struck early an took a 7-0 lead in the fifth. NLS rallied by couldn’t come up with enough in the seventh to overcome the deficit.

Jarrett Hatlestad doubled and scored two runs and Ryan Vraa was 1-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs.

The Wildcats are 0-3 in the WCC, 1-3 overall and play at Delano at 5 p.m. Thursday.

ACGC held onto a one-run lead until Paynesville exploded for all seven of its runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings on Tuesday at Lake Henry.

Brandon Schleper had two hits and drove in two runs and Matt Quade also drove in a run. Blake Karsch doubled in three trips and He also picked up the win, despite walking seven.

Sheldon Rasmussen was 3-for-4 for the Falcons.

The Bulldogs are 5-1 overall and play at Yellow Medicine East at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Brent Grund fell just short of duplicating his teammate’s performance, tossing a one-hitter in the Warriors five-inning victory over the Braves on Tuesday in Bird Island.

Grund walked two and struck out three a day after Logan Sandgren no-hit Minnewaska.

Grund was equally effective at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double. He drove in a run and scored twice.

Trent Athmann and Ben Steffel both were 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Trevor Nissen hit a solo homer and scored two runs.

Benson’s Tanner Mikkelson had the Braves’ lone hit in the first inning, driving in Aaron Ahrndt.

Christian Weber’s two-out hard single over second base chased home Austin Heipler from second with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning at Montevideo.

Both teams got excellent pitching. Austin VerSteeg took the loss, allowing just four hits and one earned run over 7.1 innings with a walk and six strikeouts.

Joe Rohloff pitched into the eighth inning for the Hawks. But when Matt McIver singled with one out, Monte manager Tim Epema brought in Ricky Schmitz in relief to get the final two outs on a fly out and a strikeout and pick up the win with the Monte run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the second with an unearned run scored by Markus Kranz when Hiepler singled.

Waska tied it 1-1 in the sixth when Jon Nygaard reached on an error and scored on a second Monte error.

VerSteeg also threw a fine game giving up six hits over 7.1 innings, walking no one and fanning six Lakers.

Freshman Brandon Dahl worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and notched a game-ending strikeout with two runners on in the seventh to save sophomore Nathan Torkelson’s win.

Aaron Collins opened the KMS scoring with an RBI single in the second. Rylan Hatlestad then knocked in three runs with a sacrifice fly in the third and two-run double to left in the fifth that knocked in Jordan Engler and Travis Lamecker.

Torkelson scattered three hits, two runs, two walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

Colin Thompson, Brady Holwerda and Griffin Schaub combined to three-hit “host” Yellow Medicine East in a non-conference game played at Sacred Heart.

YME played as the home team in the Jaguars’ home park.

Schaub was 3-for-3 and drove in a run and Hayden Johnson was 2-for-2.

Holwerda got the win in relief of Thompson and Schaub pitched the final inning.

Austin Vikander, Chase Richter and Zach Fischer had YME’s only hits.

The Jaguars are 2-1 and play at Benson on Thursday at 5 p.m.
