Prep Baseball Roundup: KMS hangs on to beat Benson

Fighting Saints build a six-run lead to beat Braves

SUNBURG — Building up a six-run lead, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg had the cushion it needed to hold off a late Benson comeback as the Fighting Saints won Saturday’s non-conference baseball game, 7-5.

Isaac Call led KMS’ offense, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Alex Call finished 2-for-2 with three RBis and two stolen bases. Isaac Rudningen chipped in with a hit, two runs and an RBI in the Fighting Saints’ victory.

On the mound, Wylee Lottman got the win after striking out nine over 6-1/3 innings. Brody Forsell locked down the save.

Patrick Minchow and Isaac Minchow had back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the seventh, followed by a two-run single by Sam Lenarz.

Ranked second in Class A, the Fighting Saints (13-0) head to Hancock for another non-conference game on Tuesday. Benson (11-3) travels to Melrose for a West Central Conference game Tuesday.

Lac qui Parle Valley gave up three unearned runs in the tough-luck loss to Border West at Madison.

Border West scored once in third third. A runner reached first on an error and went to third on a failed pick-off attempt in which the throw went into right field.

Border West added two in the seventh on a two-run double by Brody Nochbar in which both runs were unearned.

“It was our third straight game in which we didn’t allow an earned run,” LQPV coach Bart Hill said. “It tells you how good our pitching has been and how we’ve struggled in the field.”

LQPV plays Tuesday at MACCRAY.
