MONTEVIDEO - The Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles have picked right up where they left off last June at Target Field.
Yes, they did lose to St. Agnes in the Class A Championship game but that did little to detract from their thrilling march through the Section 3 Tournament and then the first two rounds of state at Chaska.
After whipping Montevideo on Tuesday 8-1, the Eagles are 8-0 despite significant graduation losses.
Sophomore Garrett Olson pitched the win, allowing 3 hits and an unearned run over six. He’s one of seven sophomores on the roster complementing seven seniors and a lone junior (pitcher Sawyer Bohn).
Senior Colby Siegert, batting leadoff, had a pair of hits and scored 3 times. Sophomore Brandon Hill, son of head coach Bart Hill, also had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs.

Preston Kraft, the Eagles’ sturdy catcher, scored a pair of runs and plated another.
Jake Bednar, the losing pitcher, had one of the Hawks’ 3 hits. Austin Hiepler and Jordan Thompson also singled off Olson.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta’s Bryce Jergenson had three hits and Jake Torgerson held Melrose to just four singles while striking out six and not issuing a walk in a 76-pitch performance over seven innings of work.

Logan Manska moved over the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Tom Holland grounded out to knock in Jergenson with the game’s first run. Berget then scored on a wild pitch.
