DELANO -- Litchfield's Austin Larson held Paynesville in check and the Dragons made three early runs hold up in a 3-1 victory over Paynesville in the Section 5AA-West championship game on Wednesday.

DELANO - Litchfield’s Austin Larson held Paynesville in check and the Dragons made three early runs hold up in a 3-1 victory over Paynesville in the Section 5AA-West championship game on Wednesday.

Larson allowed an earned run on four hits, outdueling Paynesville’s Blake Karsch, who allowed two earned and struck out nine.

Paynesville plays Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted at 4:30 p.m. today in Delano while Litchfield is off until Monday when the Dragons play Delano.

Browerville sent 12 batters to the plate and had seven hits in an eight-run first inning to end ACGC’s season.

The big blow was a two-out, three-run double off the bat of Trent Johnson that gave Browerville an 8-0 lead.

Brett Busskohl, Brody Larson and Jordan Nelson each had two hits for the Falcons, who finish their season 6-12.

Fairmont returned to a game suspended by rain on Tuesday with an offensive outburst that all but sealed up a Section 3AA victory over the Tigers on Wednesday.

The game was suspended with Fairmont batting in the bottom of the second inning. In the third, Fairmont scored six runs and pitcher Clayton Maakestad allowed just an unearned run over the final five innings.

Bryce Jergenson, Gage Backman, Riley Biesterfeld and Cory Storck - who tripled in a run - had the Tigers’ four hits.

MCA, now 11-11, plays St. James at 7 p.m. today in Marshall in the section losers bracket.
