PRINSBURG - In 11 innings of non-conference baseball at the ballfield in Prinsburg, the adversaries had managed just six runs - three each for Lac qui Parle Valley and Central Minnesota Christian School - on Monday.
After one more inning the final score had mushroomed to 10-9, in the Eagles’ favor.
The visitor’s seven-run inning featured a three-run blast by Dylan Lillejord, making it 10-3.
The Bluejays might have retreated and called it a day. Instead, they piled up six runs in the bottom of the frame and nearly won it. With the winning run on second, a hot smash toward third looked like it would get through, but the Eagles’ Ty Kanstrup made a fine play to throw out the batter and end perhaps the longest varsity game ever at the Prinsburg diamond.
The Jays’ Austin Bulthuis, who had a two-run single in the 12th, was robbed in the bottom of the 10th of a game-winning hit as LQPV left fielder Phil Kleven made a diving catch of a slicing liner for the third out with the winning run on third.
