MARSHALL - The New London-Spicer baseball team opened the Section 3AA playoffs with a victory over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop but fell to Marshall in the second round and will play today in the losers bracket against Benson at 7 p.m. in Montevideo.
In Game One, Lucas Nordmeyer scattered six hits to earn the shutout victory.
Jarrett Hatlestad’s two-run single in the fourth drove in the game’s only runs.
In Game Two, Connor Winkelman held the Wildcats’ offense in check as the Tigers prevailed in five innings.

Bryce Gorder got the best of a pitchers’ duel with Lac qui Parle Valley’s Garrett Olson and the No. 7-seed Lancers knocked the 2-seed Eagles out of the postseason on Saturday in Madison.
Gorder allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out nine.
Olson was almost as good, also working a complete game but allowing two earned on three hits. He struck out five.

MACCRAY earned its way into the double-elimination stages of the Section 3A with a 10-7 win over Yellow Medicine East on Saturday, but then fell in a heartbreaker, 2-1, to Canby in Game Two.

The Wolverines play Canby at 5 p.m. today in Montevideo.
In Game One, Derick Sommers, Caleb Melin and Connor Cronen all had two hits, and MACCRAY broke open a close game with a four-run sixth inning.
In Game Two, Tyler Moffenbier took a tough loss, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven.
Melin and Moffenbier both had two hits and Dylan Abraham drove in the Wolverines’ only run in the third inning.
