RENVILLE - A four-run fifth inning followed a pair of two-run frames for Renville County West as the Jaguars closed out the regular season by upending the Knights 9-4 on Thursday. RCW (9-4) gets just one day of rest as it opens the Section 3A-North playoffs on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against No. 5-seed Minneota/Lincoln HI in Raymond. The winner will then play at 3:30 p.m. against the No. 1 MACCRAY-No. 8 Yellow Medicine East winner.

Jesse Miller and Mason Schmitz both had an RBI double in the Jaguars’ first and Colin Thompson highlighted a nine-at bat fifth with an RBI single.

Thompson also earned the win on the mound after allowing two hits and no earned runs while pitching the fourth and fifth in relief of starter Brady Holwerda, who doubled and singled while visiting the plate.

The Wildcats (7-9) open Section 3AA-North vs.  Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Legion Field in Marshall, with the loser eliminated. The winner will play the Marshall vs. Redwood Valley winner at 3:30 p.m.

Cathedral junior Dominic Austing one-hit the Bulldogs and the Crusaders won in six innings on Thursday at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

Austing worked all six innings, didn’t issue a walk and struck out 13. Paynesville’s Nick Dingmann broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fifth.

The Bulldogs open the Section 5AA-West playoffs at Maple Lake today at 4:30 p.m.

Sleepy Eye 12, BLHS 2

Sleepy Eye wore down Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, breaking open a close game with four runs in the fourth and another four in the fifth to win a Section 2A-North game and ending the Mustangs’ season.

Five BLHS players managed hits off Sleepy Eye winner Austin Fischer, who allowed one earned run and struck out six.

The Saints’ season came to an end when the Royals bounced back in the sixth to reclaim the lead and win the Section 3A playoff game on Thursday.

KMS led 5-4 heading into the home half of the sixth, but Royalton put up five runs, the highlight being Nathan Psyck’s three-run home run.

KMS’ Jordan Engler was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Caleb Collins and Nathan Torkelson both had two hits and drove in runs.

The Saints wrapped up the season 3-14.

The Owls’ Brandon Shaw was 3-for-4 and Justin Miller, Taylor Holleman and Philip Schaefer had the team’s other hits.

The Owls will find out their Section 6A South seed on Sunday and will open the playoffs Tuesday, with an opponent, time and location to be determined.
