Prep Baseball Roundup: Willmar gets back on track vs. Alexandria

Ian Koosman strikes out 11 in Willmar's 4-1 home win

WILLMAR — After taking its first two losses of the year on Monday, the Willmar baseball team bounced back in the comfy confines of Bill Taunton Stadium.

Hosting Alexandria in a Central Lakes Conference contest, Willmar picked up the 4-1 victory.

Ian Koosman put forth a strong effort on the mound, striking out 11 while holding Alex to one run on five hits and one walk in a complete-game victory.

On offense, Jett Salonek hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, finishing 3-for-4. Hunter Magnuson added two hits, two RBIs and a stolen base while Chase Dirksen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Alexandria’s Devan Swerman hit a solo homer to lead off the top of the fourth.

Moving to 10-2 against the CLC, Willmar (14-2) travels to Sauk Rapids on Thursday.

Morris/CA had one hit. Sam Kleinwolterink went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Lakers’ runs came on a bases-loaded walk by Aaron VerSteeg, a sacrifice fly by VerSteeg and an error.

On the mound, Minnewaska’s Darion Alexander struck out eight in a complete-game victory. The Tigers’ Zach Bruns and Durgin Decker combined for the no-hitter, with Bruns taking the loss.

Wollschlager struck out nine, walked three and allowed no earned runs. He also recorded a strikeout with bases loaded in the seventh to preserve the win.
