BIRD ISLAND - The Yellow Medicine East baseball team picked up its first win of the season in very memorable fashion.
YME scored five runs in the third inning and Blake Lindstrom pitched four terrific innings in relief as the Sting upset BOLD 7-4 on Friday.
The Sting won for the first time in eight games this season while snapping the defending Class A state champions’ 16-game winning streak.
BOLD had allowed just six runs in eight games this season but the Sting took full advantage of five Warriors errors and five walks.
BOLD touched YME starter and winner Austin Vikander for a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, but the Warriors managed just two hits and a walk off Lindstrom in the final four innings.

YME’s Derrick Grund was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, and Lindstrom and Dylan Johnson both scored twice.
BOLD’s Logan Sandgren was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Trent Athmann pitched five strong innings in relief of losing pitcher Austin Weis, surrendering just an unearned run while striking out eight.
YME improved to 1-7 while BOLD fell to 8-1.

Paynesville scored its first runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, then scored twice in the eighth to down Minnewaska in a West Central Conference game Friday in Roscoe.
The Bulldogs scored runs on an error and a ground out in the seventh, then plated the tying and winning runs on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball in the eighth.
Paynesville’s Nick Dingmann was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Jordan Roos allowed two unearned runs in three innings of relief to get the win.

Minnewaska’s Austin VerSteeg didn’t get a decision but pitched well, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out nine in seven innings of work.
Justin Amundson and VerSteeg both had two hits and VerSteeg drove in three runs.

RCW picked up its fifth win of the season on a walk-off balk in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Brody Elfering reached on error, took second on an error and made it to third on a bunt.
After taking a big lead, a balk was called on BLHS pitcher Kyle Kubesh and Elfering scored the game-winner.
The Jaguars’ first run came in the second when Jon Kronlokken walked, stole second and third, and scored on a double steal.
Hayden Johnson picked up the win with 1.1 innings in relief of Brady Holwerda.
The Jaguars (5-3) next play Monday at TMB, and BLHS plays Monday at Sleepy Eye.

The Eagles scored 12 runs in the first inning and got home runs from Damon Tumberg and Nick Kupfer to down the Owls in five innings.
The Eagles were 21-3 last year, losing in the state semifinals to the Osakis team BOLD defeated for the championship. They are now 8-0 this season.
Collin Brown was 2-for-3 and Bryce Schmidgall, Michael Milander, Justin Miller and Taylor Holleman had hits for the Owls. Hancock plays Hillcrest Lutheran at 5 p.m. Monday.
