BIRD ISLAND - BOLD senior southpaw Logan Sandgren tossed his third shutout of the still-young season on a gorgeous Monday afternoon as the Warriors knocked off Paynesville 5-0 in West Central Conference baseball.
The Bulldogs managed four hits off Sandgren, which is twice the number of hits he’s allowed in two previous games (a no-hitter and a shutout).
He whiffed 10 Bulldogs which was good for $100 in the Warriors’ baseball bank. A sign on the backstop proclaimed Home Town Bank contributes $10 for every strikeout in the ballpark by a BOLD pitcher.
Warriors’ manager Brian Kingery explained that the donation is capped at 30 Ks and that the local bank has similar challenges for other sports.
Sangren doesn’t need a lot of support but a three-run third put his team up 4-0. Trent Athmann and Lane Stadther started the rally with singles and Trevor Nissen followed with a triple to the 368-foot sign in straightaway center.

Several more hard-hit balls followed facing Bulldogs’ righty Jordan Roos. He allowed nine hits and a walk over five innings.
Paynesville dropped to 6-4 overall. Blake Karsch, who bats in the No. 2 spot, had two of the visitors’ four safeties off Sandgren.
