Prep Baseball: Thunder Hawks, Tigers split doubleheader

MONTEVIDEO -- Morris/Chokio-Alberta cruised in the first game of a West Central Conference doubleheader with Montevideo on Friday before the Thunder Hawks edged the Tigers in the second game.

Game One

Morris/CA 12, Montevideo 1

The Tigers clubbed five doubles and a triple in a 10-run first inning to beat Montevideo in five innings.

Four players had multi-hit games, including three each from Nate Anderson and Brady Jergenson.

Anderson and Noah Grove each scored three runs.

Game Two

Adam Kilibarda drove in the eventual winning run as part of a three-run fifth as Montevideo came back to split the twin bill.

Connor Kontz and Jack Carruth led off the fifth with two straight hits.

Kontz scored on a throwing error by the catcher, and Zac Enevoldsen drove in Carruth with a double before scoring on Kilibarda’s single.

The Tigers left runners on in the fifth and sixth with a chance to tie, and had a runner thrown out on a stolen base attempt to end the game.

Kilibarda and Enevoldsen had three hits each, and Andrew Peters was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Enevoldsen tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out three.

The T-Hawks next play Tuesday at home in a doubleheader against Sauk Centre, and MCA hosts Minnewaska on Tuesday.

Jacob Weller threw his second one-hitter of the week as Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa downed Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on the first day of the Jaguars’ tournament Friday in Elrosa.

Weller, who one-hit Eden Valley-Watkins on Monday, had a no-hitter going until Nathan Torkelson singled with one out in the seventh.

Weller allowed one walk and struck out 10.

BBE’s Dalon Bitzan was 2-for-3, doubled and drove in a run, and Ryan Illies also had two hits.

KMS plays Minnewaska at 1:30 p.m. today in the final round of the tournament and BBE takes on Browerville/Eagle Valley at 7 p.m.

Minnewaska 10, Browerville/Eagle Valley 3

Minnewaska belted out 12 hits to defeat Browerville/Eagle Valley in the first round of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Tournament on Friday in Elrosa.

Jackson Hendrickson drove in three runs with two singles and Austin VerSteeg also singled twice to drive in two runs to pace the Lakers (10-2). Matthew McIver added two RBIs, while Justin Amundson, Matt Paulson and Riley Thompson also had two hits apiece.

McIver struck out five, gave up just one earned run and scattered seven hits and three walks to earn a complete-game win.

Minnewaska plays Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg today at 1:30 p.m. in its final game of the tournament.
