Prep Baseball: VerSteeg fires two-hitter in Lakers’ 1-0 win

GLENWOOD - Austin VerSteeg threw a two-hitter and Minnewaska manufactured a sixth-inning run to edge Morris/Chokio-Alberta 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel Tuesday.
VerSteeg struck out six and didn’t walk any. He also had two of his team’s five hits.
MCA’s Brady Jergenson was equally excellent most of the way, striking out seven with two walks.
But the Lakers did just enough offensively, as Michael Gruber scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth.
The loss, the Tigers’ first in West Central Conference play, cost them a chance to move into undisputed second place, as fellow WCC unbeatens Sauk Centre and Melrose played each other Tuesday.
MCA hosts Marshall Thursday. Minnewaska is at Paynesville Friday.

A tight game turned into a hitfest in the latter innings, with BOLD scoring 11 runs in its final three innings to down the Thunder Hawks in Bird Island on Tuesday.
Logan Nissen homered and doubled and drove in three runs.
and Jordan Sagedahl was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and he scored twice.
Austin Tersteeg had three hits, and Max Buchtel and Hunter Evenson both had two hits.
Montevideo’s Connor Kontz, Garrett Christianson and John VanRavensway all had two hits.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City led the entire game and got a complete-game victory that featured seven strikeouts from Payton Kinzler in the opener Tuesday in Benson.
Cullen Hoffmann, who capped the scoring with a two-run double in the fifth, and Kobe Holtz had two hits apiece for ACGC.
Andrew Lindahl singled twice, stole three bases and drove in a run for Benson.

All four of ACGC’s runs came after base runners reached on Benson errors.
Holtz outdueled Benson starter Jared Knutson to earn a complete-game win.
Both pitchers went the distance and ACGC outhit the Braves 4-2.
Adam Lindahl scored twice and stole four bases, including home plate in the third inning, for Benson.

Nathan Torkelson drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Saints edged the Blackjacks on Tuesday at Willie Reigstad Park in Sunburg.
In the eighth, Rylan Hatlestad walked with one out, and a Blackjacks’ error put runners on second and third.
Brandin Dahl was hit by a pitch before Torkelson’s walk.
The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on Weston Gjerde’s RBI ground out and Brandon Rasmussen’s run-scoring single.
Torkelson got the final five outs to pick up the victory in relief of Rasmussen.
The Saints host Canby on Thursday.

Tough luck and a couple of errors sent Central Minnesota Christian School to its second loss of the season on Tuesday in Minneota.
The Bluejays took a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the seventh but the Vikings loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, scored the tying run on an error and won the game on an infield bouncer.
Tedd Ahrenholz, Tanner Stoel and Micah Van Der Beek had the Bluejays’ three hits.
CMCS is 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Camden Conference. The Bluejays play host to MACCRAY at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Prinsburg.
