Prep Baseball: Waska stays in thick of West Central South race

GLENWOOD -- Taylor Kollman twirled a one-hitter and Minnewaska remained in the West Central South Conference chase with an 11-1 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Friday.

GLENWOOD -- Taylor Kollman twirled a one-hitter and Minnewaska remained in the West Central South Conference chase with an 11-1 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Friday.

Kollman walked one and struck out five in the five-inning game shortened because of the 10-run rule.

Minnewaska had five straight hits to score five runs in the third inning, then had six hits in the fourth for five more runs.

Trenton Berg went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored for the Lakers. Mike Whittemore had two doubles and Shane Bosek had two hits.

Mitch Tauer had the only hit for the Falcons.

A five-run first inning held up for Morris.

Morris (5-5, 9-5) sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning and its first five batters in the lineup scored.

With a comfortable lead in hand, Matt Lembcke then threw four more scoreless innings before Benson (3-7, 4-8) plated four runs in the sixth and seventh. Lembcke struck out five and gave up just one earned run without issuing a walk to earn the win.

Ryan Beyer had two hits for the Tigers while Cody Jaeger and Brennan Kent both had two singles for Benson.

Litchfield's Brady Smith had a no-hitter through five innings before giving up a single to lead off the sixth. Smith allowed just two singles for the game and struck out 11 to outduel Ryan Style, who also struck out 11 in a complete-game performance for the Panthers (9-3, 12-3).

Nick Buschette put Litchfield (7-5, 7-5) up 2-0 with a two-run single in the fourth and Matt Spreiter scored the eventual winning run in the fifth when Style uncorked a wild pitch.
