Prep Basketball Roundup: Bluejays back on track after first loss

MAPLE GROVE -- One day after losing their first game of the season, Central Minnesota Christian rebounded quickly by crushing Heritage Christian 66-39 on Saturday.

MAPLE GROVE - One day after losing their first game of the season, Central Minnesota Christian rebounded quickly by crushing Heritage Christian 66-39 on Saturday.

The Bluejays’ Taylor Slagter put up 17 points and nine rebounds, Tanner Stoel added 14 and the Bluejay defense limited Heritage to just 17 points in the first half.

CMCS, now 5-1 overall, takes on Renville County West on Tuesday in Prinsburg.

Benson 56, Ortonville 42

Benson evened its record at 2-2 with a non-conference victory over the Trojans on Saturday in Benson.

Adam Lindahl scored 28 points and Layton Connelly, Josh Manzke and Zack Sonnabend all scored eight points to hand Ortonville its first loss of the season.

Sonnabend and Connelly both had eight rebounds and Adam Lindahl made five steals.

The Braves play ACGC in the Benson tournament on Friday.

Renville County West took care of Ellsworth on the road Saturday with a 63-42 win.

Brady Holwerda scored 18 points with eight rebounds and five assists and Adam Terhaar added 14.

The Jags will head to Prinsburg to play Central Minnesota Christian on Tuesday.

Central Minnesota Christian couldn’t overcome Jack Jenson’s 42 points, dropping their first game of the season Friday to Southwest Christian 69-60.

Taylor Slagter led the Bluejays with 16 points and Matthew Van Eps and Ethan Brouwer both contributed 13. Southwest Christian’s nine-point halftime lead remained unscathed in the second.
