Prep Basketball Roundup: Thunder Hawks to play for Section 3AA championship

MARSHALL -- Montevideo reaches the Section 3AA championship game with a 65-40 thumping of Minnewaska in the 3AA-North championship game on Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

The 21-7 Thunder Hawks will play Jackson County Central (22-5) in the section championship and a spot in the Class AA state tournament at 5 p.m. Thursday at SMSU.

JCC advanced with a 66-62 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday at SMSU.

The teams played a close first half but Montevideo limited the Lakers to just 14 second-half points.

Travis Dreyer and Troy Diggins both scored 14 points and Isaac Douglas and Riley Emery both scored 10.

Diggins had nine rebounds and Dreyer and Jared Saue both had five boards.

Minnewaska finished 19-9. The Lakers’ Matt McIver scored a team-high 14 points and Jake Peters had 11.

Tanner Heinsius had 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, and Austin Trustheim scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds to lead BBE to the Section 6A-West victory on Saturday at the University of Minnesota, Morris.

Hancock’s Noah Kannegiesser scored 16 points and Collin Brown had 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Owls finished 17-7.

The Jaguars (15-12) play Battle Lake (22-6) at 7 p.m. today at UMM.

LQPV’s Haley Wollschlager finished with 11 points, four assists and two steals, Lindsay Kranz scored 12 points and Kelsey Kuechenmeister had eight points and seven rebounds.

Dawson-Boyd’s Alex Sather had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Kaitlyn Willander finished with 10 points.
