GROVE CITY - Jordan Nelson scored the first and last touchdown for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Tuesday, and in between Maverick Whitcomb scored 5 times as the No. 3-seeded Falcons soared past No. 6 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 48-6 in the quarterfinal-round of the Section 4A playoffs.
ACGC (7-2) will now play at No. 2 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (8-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Belgrade in the semifinals. The Falcons beat BBE 6-0 in last year’s section final.
The Falcons ran off 71 plays Tuesday with 66 coming on the ground. Thirteen different ball carriers piled up 388 yards, 186 from Nelson and 114 from Whitcomb.
The Mustangs (2-7) were held to 63 yards on offense and their lone score came in the fourth when Kyle Kubesh caught a 13-yard TD pass from Kyle Mellies.
