Prep Football: BOLD wins big to open another run to state

Warriors’ Sagedahl accounts for five TDs in win over KMS

OLIVIA — As the defending Class A state runner-ups began their journey for a return trip to Minneapolis, two athletes made BOLD’s first football game of 2019 look more like a track meet: senior quarterback Jordan Sagedahl and wide receiver Gavin Vosika.

The duo had a hand in each of their teams seven touchdowns as the Warriors walloped Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 50-0 on Friday from BOLD High School.

Responsible for three touchdowns on the day, Vosika compiled 146 rushing yards on just three carries while hauling in a 37-yard scoring reception. Sagedahl scored the game’s first three touchdowns on the ground and added two more in the air, as he completed all nine of his passes for 145 yards.

After reaching paydirt on 13-yard and 1-yard run, Sagedahl’s most spectacular play came late in the first quarter. Fighting Saints junior tight end Brandon Kallstrom had the dynamic senior wrapped up in the backfield, but Sagedahl escaped with a spin, bounced to the outside before finding a seam and racing up the sideline for a 44-yard touchdown.

On BOLD’s next offensive possession following a KMS three-and-out, Vosika took the handoff after running in motion and ran into daylight for a thrilling 79-yard scamper to give the Warriors a 29-0 first quarter lead. He added a 63-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

On the opposite side, KMS senior running back Austin Dieke was running on the ground, earning 76 yards on 14 carries. Kallstrom rushed the ball five times for 40 rushing yards, but the passing game was held in check, as the visitors only had one reception for two yards.

On Friday, KMS will host Royalton for the Fighting Saints’ home opener at 7 p.m. in Murdock. BOLD will hit the road and face Morris/CA at 7 p.m. in Morris on Friday.
