Prep Football: Falcons surge past Mainstreeters

GROVE CITY - An ACGC scoring onslaught in the second and third quarters turned a close game into a 63-16 rout of Sauk Centre in the opening round of the Section 5AA playoffs on Tuesday.

Michael Trebil ran for two touchdowns and threw a 23-yard scoring pass to Josh Kinzler to put ACGC up 21-8 after the first quarter. Sauk Centre pulled close when Hunter Fletcher scored his second TD of the game to open the second quarter, but it was all Falcons after that.

ACGC scored six unanswered touchdowns, with Kinzler catching two touchdown passes from Trebil and also running 63 yards for a score.

Trebil was an all-purpose weapon. In addition to the scoring passes, he scored on a 41-yard run and returned a fumble 57 yards for a TD. Chase Litzau closed out the scoring with a five-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Kinzler ran for 155 yards on just eight carries and Trebil had 120 rushing yards on 11 carries. Trebil hit 8 of 13 throws for 114 yards and two scores. Kinzler caught seven balls for 100 yards.

Tyson Meyer ran for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and Ryan Amundson added 10 carries for 97 yards in a big Minnewaska victory Tuesday.

Meyer took control after the first quarter, scoring the Lakers' final three touchdowns.

With eight touchdowns and 393 yards on the ground, top-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg plowed through eighth-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa with a 63-20 Section 4A quarterfinal win Tuesday in Murdock.

Leading the Saints' rushing attack was Dylan Rudningen who tallied 268 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns (six rushing, one kick return). Weston Gjerde and Wylee Lottman also crossed the goal line for KMS.

The Fighting Saints will play host to fifth-seeded Kimball in the section semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday in Murdock. The Cubs advanced with a 27-20 victory against No. 4 Upsala/Swanville.

For all its firepower on offense, it was defense and special teams that lifted BOLD to a big win over Lakeview in the Warriors' section opener on Tuesday.

Gavin Vosika and Luke Ryan both returned punts for touchdowns, Ryan returned a kickoff 79 yards for a TD, Jordan Sagedahl returned a fumble for a score, and Ryan also kicked a 34-yard field goal.

Vosika and Ryan also caught a scoring passes from Sagedahl, and Tim Peppel, John Burman and Joey McMath ran for touchdowns.

The 9-0 Warriors play host to Ortonville in a Section 5A second-round game at 3 p.m. Saturday in Olivia.

Fifth-seeded Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart extended its season on Tuesday, holding off No. 4 Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in the Section 2 9-Man quarterfinals, 33-22.

Kaden Zanoth led off the first quarter with two rushing touchdowns for the Mustangs. Sleepy Eye St. Mary's took a 14-13 lead in the second half, only for BLHS to punch in two scores of its own via Bradlee Wulkan from 10 yards and Zach Reuber from 63 yards. Reuber was the Mustangs' leading rusher with 167 yards on 27 carries.

With the win, BLHS heads to top-seeded Ogilvie on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
