Prep football: Lakers clip Benson

BENSON -- Minnewaska won its third game in a row after losing its first four of the season, clipping Benson 13-12 on Friday.

The Lakers (3-4, 3-4) scored twice in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Austin Ostrander and a 20-yard reception by Sam Long.

Ostrander's score was setup when the Benson punter was tackled after a bad snap. The Lakers got the ball on the 4-yard line and scored on a two-play drive.

Benson scored on an 89-yard kickoff return by Landon Mitteness, and the Lakers led 13-6 after the first quarter.

The Braves scored again in the fourth on a 2-yard run by Matt Ahrndt, but the Benson kicker missed the extra point that would've tied the game.

Benson had a chance on the last play of the game. With about 10 seconds left, quarterback Ahrndt tried to throw the ball away to setup a field goal from the 20-yard line, but the referee ruled he was down on an Isaiah Adams sack to end the game.
