Prep football: Paynesville tops Lakers, finishes 8-0

PAYNESVILLE - Paynesville put the polish on an undefeated regular season on Wednesday night beating the Minnewaska Lakers 42-13 on a cool, clear evening.

It’s the Bulldogs’ first unbeaten, untied regular season since 1972 when Virg  Vagle was in his early seasons as head coach.

Against the Lakers, the Bulldogs piled up 439 yards off offense for head coach Max Meagher.

Quarterback Matthew Quade ran for a gross in just 12 carries, a 12.0 yard per carry average. The 6-1, 188-pound junior threw 196 yards and 4 TDs, adding up to 340 yards of total yardage.

On the scoring end of Quade passes were Andrew Topp (45, 4 and 38 yards) and Nick Dingmann (33 yards). Quade also busted free for a 53 yard score making it 16-0 after one quarter.

Paynesville’s last WCC football title was in 1990.

The Dogs play at home Tuesday to begin post-season.
