Prep Football: RCW stretches win streak to 4

DANUBE - Hayden Johnson threw three touchdown passes and Alex Villarreal ran for 127 yards and a score to help Renville County West win its fourth straight on Friday after upending MACCRAY 28-14 in a Nine-West District game.

The Jaguars (4-2) never trailed as Johnson connected with Spencer Mortensen for a 15-yard scoring strike midway through the first quarter and with Colin Thompson for two second-quarter scores covering four and 20 yards.

Connor Cronen threw a 33-yard TD pass to Jackson Grussing in the first quarter and ran for a five-yard score in the third quarter to account for MACCRAY’s scoring. Cronen threw for 190 yards and ran for another 102.

Nic Pieper ran for the two-point conversion after Cronen’s scoring run to pull the Wolverines within a score, but RCW answered just a couple of minutes later with Villarreal’s five-yard TD run.

MACCRAY did pile up 358 yards of offense, but Cronen threw four interceptions and the Wolverines lost a fumble and gave up six sacks to hurt their chances of ending RCW’s winning streak.

RCW ran for 216 yards and Johnson completed 13 of 21 passes for 161 yards, and also ran the ball 16 times to pick up another 80 yards.

Mortensen hauled in four passes for 112 yards, while Grussing (7-79) and Brady Madsen (6-101) combined to snag 13 Cronen completions for 180 yards.

RCW (4-2) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart and MACCRAY (4-2) is at Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley next Friday.

Hancock 46, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 16

Max Fuechtenberg, Chandler Gramm and Kaleb Koehl all scored two touchdowns to lead Hancock to the District 9 West win on Friday.

Max Fuechtenberger ran 29 times for 118 yards and Ty  Fuechtenberger ran 26 times for 96 yards. Koehl gained 89 yards on 11 carries. The Owls had 341 rushing yards.

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart ran into a tough outfit and dropped its fifth-straight game on Friday afternoon in Graceville.

The Wolverines had 306 total yards with 276 coming on the ground.

BLHS’s Dawson Best carried three times for 32 yards, and quarterback Brad Ebbers hit 18 of 29 throws for 93 yards.

The Mustangs play in Danube against Renville County West at 7 p.m. Friday.

Peyton Mortenson ran for 69 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles over Ortonville on Friday.

Quarterback Chase Mortenson also ran for a TD and threw another, a 9-yard pass to Ross Olson in the first quarter. Olson had four catches for 80 yards on the game.

Lucas Strand scored the Eagles’ final touchdown, a 4-yard run to close out the half with LQPV leading 40-7.

Strand ran for 59 yards and two passes for 68 more.

Ortonville’s Tyson Powell, the grandson of LQPV head coach Kyle Inforzato, ran for 70 yards and a touchdown.
