Prep Football Roundup: Dawson-Boyd gets back on track

Blackjacks rebound from first loss to beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton

TYLER — A week after dropping its first game of the 2021 season, Dawson-Boyd got back in the win column Friday with a 27-18 Southwest West district road win Friday over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

Holt Larson accounted for three of the Blackjacks’ touchdowns, with scoring runs of 10, 4 and 10 yards. He finished the night with 101 yards on 26 rushing attempts. Braydon Hahn completed 7 of 14 passes for 71 yards while also rushing for 32 yards — including a 4-yard TD — on 11 carries.

D-B’s defense forced five takeaways, with Collin Swedzinski recovering two fumbles.

The Blackjacks (5-1) are back at home at 7 p.m. Thursday against MACCRAY.

Up by just two after the first quarter, Paynesville scored 28 straight points on the way to a Mid State 2 district win at Holdingford.

Going for 506 yards of total offense, the Bulldogs’ Blake Hitner had a pair of rushing touchdowns in a 14-carry, 88-yard effort. Chase Bayer threw a pair of TD passes and ran for a 51-yard score, finishing the game with 172 total yards (118 passing, 54 rushing). Eli Nelson had five catches for 126 yards, hauling in a pair of TDs from 30 and 55 yards.

Paynesville returns home Friday to face Morris/Chokio-Alberta.
