Prep Football Roundup: RCW stretches win streak to 7

DANUBE - Alex Villarreal accounted for four touchdowns and 173 yards of offense, and Hayden Johnson ran for 124 yards and threw for another 150, sparking a 55-22 win for Renville County West against Onamia in the first round of the Section 2 Nine-Man playoffs on Wednesday.

It was the seventh straight win for the No. 3-seeded Jaguars, who now travel to No. 2 Randolph (7-2) on Tuesday for a semifinal starting at 7 p.m. The two tied in the final regular-season QRF rankings, but Randolph won a coin flip to secure the second seed.

No. 1 Cleveland hosts No. 5 MACCRAY in other semifinal on Tuesday.

Two scoring runs from Villarreal, a Johnson-Villarreal connection, a Johnson TD run and three extra-point kicks from David Glaescher gave RCW a 27-0 lead in the first quarter. Johnson and Jon Kronlokken both scored on the ground in the second quarter to give the home team a comfortable 41-8 lead at halftime.

Villarreal and Tino Salinas added second-half TD runs to give RCW its highest point total since posting a 57-0 win in Week 8 of last season.

The Jaguars gained 519 yards and subtract three long scoring runs from John Calkins - 70, 78 and 86 yards - allowed Onamia to produce just 96 yards on 42 plays.

Pacing the RCW defense was Sean Grosklags with his two sacks and two blocked punts. Kronlokken added two interceptions.

The No. 5-seed Wolverines pulled off a minor upset of No. 4-seed Isle on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Connor Cronen connected with Brady Madsen for a 76-yard touchdown pass with one second remaining in the first half for what would be the eventual deciding score.

Cronen hit Madsen for a 31-yard TD earlier in the quarter, and the MACCRAY quarterback also ran in two scores in the first quarter.

Madsen caught eight passes for 167 yards, and Cronen completed 11 of 21 passes for 201 yards.

Cronen also ran for 77 yards on 23 carries.

The Wolverines (5-4) will match up with No. 1-seed Cleveland in the semifinals 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cleveland.
