OLIVIA - Troy Diggins threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Preston Herfurth with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter to lift Montevideo past BOLD 12-6 in a Mid State District game on Friday.
The teams played to a scoreless first half before Diggins scored on an one-yard run in the third quarter. BOLD tied the game a quarter later when Brad Wolff found the end zone from three yards out.
The third consecutive win improves Montevideo to 4-1, while BOLD fell to 2-3, the first time the Warriors have been under .500 five games into the season since 2007.
BOLD threatened after Herfurth’s TD catch, but an interception in Montevideo territory with just seconds left ended the Warriors’ bid for a game-tying touchdown.
Diggins threw for 122 yards with 113 of them going to Herfurth on three completions. Reece Kuhlmann had a team-high 67 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Conner Riley ran for 87 yards and Austin Einerson chewed up another 67 yards for BOLD.
Next Friday Montevideo hosts Benson and BOLD is at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

ACGC 22, Benson 6
ACGC’s running game dominated, as the Falcons ran for 335 yards and three touchdowns while only attempting one pass all game - which was intercepted.
Tanner Olson scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter for the first score of the game.
The Braves tied it at 7:52 in the third quarter when Adam Lindahl pulled in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Layton Connelly, breaking several tackles on the way to the end zone.
But the Falcons’ running game was too much, as they scored twice in the fourth quarter on TDs from Beau Anderson and another from Tanner Olson.
Benson had opportunities to add on in the third, recovering two fumbles, but ACGC’s defense held them off both times.
Anderson ran for 183 yards on 40 carries, with Cullen Hoffmann adding 90 yards on 23 carries.
ACGC (3-2) hosts BOLD on Friday, and Benson (1-4) plays at Montevideo on Friday.

WHEATON - Big plays in a big second quarter gave Renville County West the upper hand on Friday as the Jaguars edged Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 33-30 in a Nine-West District game.
The Warriors (2-3) led 8-6 after the first quarter, but the visiting Jaguars, who have now won three straight after opening the season with two losses, posted three touchdowns in the second quarter.
Hayden Johnson threw a 59-yard TD pass to Colin Thompson, who gave RCW a 27-22 lead at halftime after scoring on a 75-yard kickoff return. Between the two Thompson scores was Alex Villarreal’s 62-yard TD run.
Villarreal later give RCW the winning play on a six-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Johnson completed a four-yard scoring strike to Brady Holwerda to open the game’s scoring. Johnson completed 5 of 11 passes for 96 yards and also gained 158 yards on the ground on 17 carries. Villarreal finished with 94 rushing yards on just seven carries.
The Warriors had a huge advantage in plays - running 78 times and throwing 11 passes to gain 423 yards - but RCW’s big plays were too much to overcome. The Jaguars ran 39 plays to pile up 365 yards.
