WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals girls hockey team earned a spot in the championship game of its own invitational tournament with a 16-0 victory over the Morris/Benson Area Storm on Friday at the Willmar Civic Center.
The Cardinals (3-0-1) will play Austin in the Willmar Invitational final at 4 p.m. today.
Austin defeated Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 9-2 in Friday's other game, and the Dragons will play MBA at 2 p.m. today.
"We played well," said Cardinals coach Jason Mayer. "(MBA) is a very young team. We got good things out of it. They're a very young and very inexperienced team."
Rebecca Freese scored 49 seconds into the game and 18 seconds later Brooke Mayer scored. KyLee Hulscher assisted on both goals.

Ten goals followed in the second period for the Cardinals with 5 of them coming in a span of 3:05.

Brooke Mayer and Shelby Schneider each netted a hat trick for Willmar. Alex Sobiek and Paige Davis added 2 goals each.
