Prep Girls Soccer: Cards fold to Brainerd

Willmar loses its first game since August 28.

With four first-half goals, including a pair in the first 12 minutes, Brainerd never looked back in a Central Lakes Conference victory over Willmar at Brainerd.

The Warriors’ Emma Shelfo had the game’s first goal in the ninth minute, then added an assist later in the first half. Lexi McElfresh, Gabby Eckman and Avery LeMieur also had first-half goals. Eckman chipped in a second-half goal at the 71st minute.

Cardinals goalkeeper Ella Swenson made 11 saves in the loss.

Willmar next plays at 4 p.m. Monday against Sauk Rapids at Hodapp Field.
