Prep Hockey Roundup: Cardinal Girls post 3-2 win

ST. PETER -- Riley Schneider scored two third-period goals, the last unassisted, to lead Willmar to a 3-2 victory over St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson/Tri-City United on Tuesday.

ST. PETER - Riley Schneider scored two third-period goals, the last unassisted, to lead Willmar to a 3-2 victory over St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson/Tri-City United on Tuesday.

The Cardinals’ Brooke Oveson knotted the game 1-1 in the first period, and Schneider matched a United goal midway through the third period and netted the game-winner with 4-1/2 minutes left.

The Cardinals rifled 54 shots at United goalie Jordan Keeley.

“We put a lot of shots on net and their goalie played a heck of a game,” said Cardinals head coach JaColby Anderson. “We knew she was going to be tough so we peppered her with a lot of shots.”

A good offensive flow made the barrage possible, Anderson said.

“Our players moved the puck really well, that’s why we got some many shots on goal,” he said. “We owned the offensive end pretty much the whole night.”

Willmar goalie Savana Knutson picked up her third varsity win, stopping 15 shots.
