Prep Hockey Roundup: Cards can't hang with Sartell/Sauk Rapids

SARTELL -- Two goals in a 3- 1/2 -minute span late in the first period ignited Sartell/Sauk Rapids past Willmar 4-1 on Thursday in Central Lakes Conference action.

SARTELL - Two goals in a 3-½-minute span late in the first period ignited Sartell/Sauk Rapids past Willmar 4-1 on Thursday in Central Lakes Conference action.

Amanda Flemming and Brooke Walters both had a hand in all four goals for the Storm’n Sabres. Flemming and Walters both netted two goals and assisted on each other goals.

The Cardinals cut Sartell/Sauk Rapids’ lead in half in the second period when Jordan Sankey netted a power-play goal 2:55 into the period. Kierra Miller and Hannah Kobienia assisted on the goal.

The Stormn’ Sabres then added two goals in the third period to improve to 6-1 in the CLC and 9-3 overall.

Willmar, which was outshot 33-19, fell to 0-5 in the CLC and 3-7 overall. The Cardinals’ next game is Saturday at home against Mound Westonka at 3 p.m.

Hutchinson 3, Litchfield-DC 2, OT

Emma Berthiaume’s goal just over three minutes into overtime gave Hutchinson a 3-2 win over Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato.

Grace and Emma Johnson were the other two goal scorers for the Tigers, who improve to 6-2 on the season.

Kait Ryynanen had a goal and an assist for LDC, and Maddy Benson had a great performance between the pipes with 39 saves.

The Dragons play host to New Ulm on Saturday.

Riley Grabow and Isaac Kobeinia scoring two goals apiece wasn’t enough for Willmar to overcome Sartell-Saint Stephen in a 6-4 loss in Willmar.

William McCabe and Colin Johnson both had two goals and an assist for the visitors, and Keenan Lund had two secondary assists and the final goal to ice the Cards.

Willmar plays Alexandria on Tuesday.

River Lakes 5, Sauk Rapids-Rice 2

River Lakes won their third game in four contests Thursday by defeating Sauk Rapids-Rice 5-2 in Paynesville.

Grant Thompson had a goal and an assist, and Jack Kuhlman and Payton Madison both chipped in two assists. They held the Storm to just 20 shots on goal.

River Lakes doesn’t play again until after the holidays, as their next game is scheduled for Dec. 28 against Providence Academy in Plymouth.
