SAUK RAPIDS - Grant Thompson scored a pure hat trick in the second period and Tyler Donabauer and Jake Rosenberger both scored twice as River Lakes pounded Sauk Rapids 11-1 in a Central Lakes Conference game on Monday at Sports Arena East.

Payton Madison, Gavin Stanger, Kenneth Mooney and Garret Leusink also scored goals for the Stars.

River Lakes, now 8-13 overall, play St. Cloud Tech at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Richmond.

Northern Lakes 2, Willmar 2

A fast start didn’t result in a win for Willmar, which had to settle for a draw against Northern Lakes.

Hannah Kobienia scored just 29 seconds into game, and Riley Schneider added another goal late in the period, putting the Cardinals ahead 2-1.

But Willmar wouldn’t score again, as the Lightning found the back of the net late in the second period to force the tie.

It was the final regular-season game for the Cardinals, who will find out who they play in the Section Tournament Wednesday.
