GROVE CITY - Cold temperatures, wind, light drizzle and two of the tougher pitchers in the area going head-to-head. Not the recipe for a high-scoring game.
Throw out the recipe.
ACGC ripped 31 hits and scored runs by the buckets against Minnewaska ace Madison Phillips, defeating the Lakers 28-12 in a five-inning game Friday.
The Falcons set team records for hits, runs and tied a school mark with three home runs.
“I didn’t expect this at all, from either side,” said ACGC head coach Brad Nelson II. “I thought it would be a 4-2-kind of game. But the kids just kept hitting; line drives, one after the other. The other shocker is they did it in cold weather.”

Both teams finished the day with 5-2 records. ACGC plays next against Yellow Medicine East at 5 p.m. Monday in Grove City.

The Falcons responded with an 11-run third inning, then ended the game with a four-run fourth.
ACGC’s Hannah Wilner hit a grand slam in the third inning, Sydney Larson hit a two-run blast in the second inning and the next batter, Erica Melbie, hit a solo shot.
