GROVE CITY -- Erica Melbie's bases-clearing double in the fourth inning broke open a tight game and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City pounded out 16 hits as the Falcons outlasted Kimball 14-11 in the first round of the Section 5A-West playoffs Monday.
The game started in the bottom of the fourth after Friday's schedule start was postponed due to rain. ACGC (9-9) manufactured four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pull away.
The No. 3-seeded Falcons will play today at 5 p.m. at Minnewaska High School against No. 7 Upsala in the sub-section semifinals.
Hanna Lang and Jacey Nelson both had two run-scoring hits and Rachel Pankratz added a two-run triple for ACGC. Sydney Larson worked all seven innings to collect the win.
