WILLMAR - Megan Zniewski hit a three-run home run in St. Cloud Cathedral’s four-run first inning, and that was more than enough for Crusaders pitcher Megan Voit to work with in a 9-1 victory over Willmar in a non-conference game Monday at the Willmar High School Fields.
Voit worked a complete game, allowing just an unearned run on three hits and she finished with 15 strike outs.
Emma Culshaw, Jordyn Swoboda and Carly Hulstein had the Cardinals’ only hits.
Willmar got on the board in the third when Heidi Sellman walked, advance on an error and scored on a dropped third strike.
Cathedral’s K.J. Heinen was 3-for-4 and scored twice, Katie Auger was 2-for-4 with a double and she scored two runs, and Voit helped herself out with a double and an RBI.
Voit saved her best in the pitching circle for when it mattered most.
She struck out two Cardinals to end the first inning with the bases loaded.
In the third, with one Cardinal in, she struck out two to strand a runner at third.
She stuck out two in the fourth with a Willmar runner on third in the fourth inning, and she repeated that feat under the same circumstances in the fifth.
Voit ended the game in similar fashion, racking up her 15th strike out to end the game with a runner on third.
Voit single-handedly stranded eight Willmar runners. She struck the side twice and had two Ks in four other innings.
