MURDOCK - Sam Gjerde tripled in two of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s three first-inning runs and it was all she would need in the pitching circle as the top-seeded Fighting Saints advanced to the Section 3A winner’s bracket semifinals with a 7-1 win over No. 5 MACCRAY on Tuesday.
Gjerde allowed a run on two hits, didn’t issue a walk and struck out 10 to get the win.
In the first, KMS’ MiKaylie Hagen and Alexis Lamecker singled and came around on Gjerde’s triple.
Hagen was 2-for-4, had a triple and drove in a run. Hannah Rosenboom had the Saints’ other hit.
MACCRAY’s Annie Sandry had one of the Wolverines’ two hits and drove in its lone run.
