MORRIS -- One day after grabbing the lead outright in the West Central South Conference softball race, Minnewaska fell 7-3 to Morris Thursday.
Laura Paulson struck out eight without issuing a walk, but Morris (7-4, 10-5) plated seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seize control.
Paynesville, Minnewaska and Benson/Hancock all have two losses in the conference.
Caroline Fritz, Dani Schultz and Mary Rentz hit consecutive singles in the fourth to tie the game before a Minnewaska error allowed Morris to pull ahead 2-1. Mackenzie Weatherly then gave the Tigers a two-run cushion with her RBI single.
Jordan Stalker, who was 4-for-4, got the Lakers within one in the fifth, but a four-run fifth gave Morris a comfortable margin. Holly Amundson highlighted the frame with a two-run single, while Schultz doubled in a run and Haley Henrichs capped the Morris scoring with an RBI single.
