Prep Softball: NLS, BOLD each 2-0 on first day of 3AA tourney

New London-Spicer and BOLD emerged victorious twice on the opening day of the Section 3AA softball tournament on Tuesday.

New London-Spicer topped Lac qui Parle Valley 10-4 in the first round and Benson/Hancock 7-1 in the winner's bracket.

BOLD edged Minneota/Canby 4-2 and then routed Montevideo 11-1.

New London-Spicer meets New Ulm at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Marshall, while BOLD takes on Pipestone at 11 a.m.

The loser's bracket continues today in Montevideo with Yellow Medicine East playing Montevideo meeting and Redwood Valley facing Benson/Hancock, both games a t 4 p.m.

First round

NL-Spicer 10, LQPV 4

Allison Ruter tripled twice and drove in two runs as the Wildcats scored all their runs in two innings -- six in the third and four in the third. Jenna Moritz, winning pitcher Jessica Rosendahl, Karli Wendlandt and Megan Bergeson had two hits each in a 14-hit attack

Karley Weir went 2-for-4 for the Eagles (2-18) and Jenna Weber doubled among her two hits.

Benson/Hancock pitcher Taylor Semler hit a two-run home run in the third inning and held the Sting to just one run after the third. She finished with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Emily Rajewsky drove in two runs for Ben-son/Hancock. Rajewsky, Datrianna Jenson and Tasha Wiebold had two hits each for the Brave/Owls.

Whitney Swenson and Livi Jeseritz had two hits each for the Sting.

Montevideo plated seven runs in the fifth inning and then held off a late Redwood Valley comeback bid.

Kayla Berget went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs for the Thunder Hawks, Emily Johnson and Courtney Schmitt were each 3-for-5.

Shelby Monahan was the winning pitcher, weathering 14 hits.

Laura Houghton hit a two-run homer for Redwood Valley. Sam Felt had three hits and drove in two runs. Jessica Fischer had two hits and two RBI.

Jessica Rosendahl followed up her first-game win with a complete-game three-hitter with no walks and five strike outs.

Brianna Jacobson tripled twice for New London-Spicer (15-4) and Taylor Thompsen had three hits to plate two runs.

Taylor Semler took the loss. Benson/Hancock (9-12) got its only run when Julie Ahrndt tripled and scored on Emily Rajewsky's single in the first. Rosendahl allowed just a single by Semler the rest of the way.
