Prep Softball: Paynesville's Woehler notches perfect game

PAYNESVILLE -- Whitney Woehler tossed a five-inning perfect game and also drove in four runs as Paynesville drubbed Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 13-0 in West Central South Conference softball on Thursday.

PAYNESVILLE -- Whitney Woehler tossed a five-inning perfect game and also drove in four runs as Paynesville drubbed Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 13-0 in West Central South Conference softball on Thursday.

Woehler, a two-time All-Area pitcher, now has a perfect game, a no-hitter and two one-hitters among her six shutouts this season. She had seven strikeouts.

Taylor Lieser led a 13-hit attack for the Bulldogs, going 3-for-3 while knocking in two runs. Woehler, Keely Meagher, Jessica Solum and Caitlyn Gottwald had two hits each for Paynesville (10-1, 12-2). Solum drove in two runs with a double and a triple. Meagher also drove in two runs.

Mackenzie Weatherly scattered seven hits and gave up one unearned run. She struck out 11 and walked three to lead the Tigers.

Dani Schultz hit a two-run single in the third inning and a two-run double in the sixth for Morris. Hannah Sayles went 3-for-4 and Haley Henrichs had two hits.

Ashly Sneller had two hits, including a double, for YME.

Brittany Nissen struck out a career-high 19 batters while spinning a two-hitter as BOLD won the first game of a doubleheader.

Nissen also went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Hillary Mages, Alex Ebnet and Taylor Ebnet also had two hits each.

Nissen walked six and did not allow an earned run.

Laura Paulson drove in three runs with a single in the first inning and a double in the fourth to support her own cause as the senior pitcher also struck out seven and gave up just one hit without a walk in 5Zc innings of work in the circle to pick up the win.

Minnewaska (11-1, 14-2) outhit the Thunder Hawks 12-3 with Paulson collecting three hits and Abby Kreitlow another two.

Emily Johnson drove in the final two runs for Montevideo (2-9, 2-10) with a two-out single in the seventh.
