ALEXANDRIA - The Willmar Cardinals dropped two games to Alexandria, 9-1 and 11-4, in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

Willmar managed a total of nine hits off Alexandria (5-3, 9-5) pitchers Bria Schueler and Kaila Dewanz, who both tossed complete games.

Sydney Fischer and Kaitlynn Kienholz had two hits on the day, and Jamie Reyes had a hit and an RBI.

Willmar fell to 1-7 in the CLC and 2-10 overall. They next play Thursday at home against Sauk Rapids.

Tracy Meichsner drove in three runs behind two singles, Lauren Reimers was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle and Brooke Gillespie spun six effective innings to lift the Tigers in the opener Tuesday.

Gillespie surrendered five hits and one earned run while striking out two in six innings to earn the win.

All of the Morris/Chokio-Alberta offense came in the first three innings, which was ignited by an 11-run first.

The Tigers batted 16 times in the first and got nine hits with Reimers, Piper Gibson and Abby Daly collecting two each. One of Reimers’ hits was a two-run homer. The Tigers then scored six times in the second and seven more times in the third.

Reimers finished 4-for-4 to drive in six runs and Gibson and Meichsner had three hits and three RBIs each. Holland and Daly also had three hits each to help the Tigers outhit the visiting Mainstreeters 20-10.

The Tigers are in Benson on Thursday to play Benson/Hancock at 5 p.m.

BOLD jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after scoring in each of the first three innings, but a four-run sixth gave Yellow Medicine East the upper hand in the opener Tuesday.

The Sting had 10 batters visit the plate in the sixth with Courtney Cuka slugging a two-run double and Megan Odegard and Mariah Norell supplying RBI singles.

Norell’s hit also gave her the pitching win as the senior scattered 11 hits, five earned runs and three strikeouts in a complete-game performance.

Lauren Kopel was 4-for-4 and Peyton Weis supplied three hits and two RBIs to pace the Warriors.

BOLD scored just two earned runs as the Warriors took advantage of four YME errors to salvage a split.

The Sting owned a 5-3 lead after five innings of play before BOLD erupted for eight runs in the sixth, highlighted by Kiah Morse’s two-run single, an RBI double from Allison Krause and RBI singles from Taylor Sagedahl, Peyton Weis and Emily Sheehan.

BOLD also committed four errors, but only one led to an YME run when Cuka drew a bases-loaded walk in the first.

Kopel, Krause and Emily Sheehan had two hits apiece to help BOLD outhit YME 10-6. Becca Rigge doubled and singled to drive in two runs for the Sting.

Paynesville scored 19 runs on 12 hits to run past Benson/Hancock and post a sweep.

Paynesville’s Halle Johnson slugged a home run and singled to drive in four runs and she scored three times. Abbie Wuertz was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Allie Stanger hit a solo home run and Schaefer knocked in three runs to add to the Bulldogs’ offense.

Motzko and Kayla Crowell both drove in two runs for the Brave Owls.

Paynesville is at Minnewaska and Benson/Hancock will look to snap a four-game losing streak at home against Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Thursday.

Minnewaska cranked out 13 hits to outslug the Dutchmen and earn a sweep.

After Melrose tied the game at 7-7 by plating seven runs in the top of the fifth, Minnewaska responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take control for good.

Abby VerSteeg was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Morgan Majerus singled twice to drive in two runs to pace the Lakers’ offense.
