Prep softball roundup: KMS heads to 3A-North finals

MURDOCK -- Courtney Olson set the tone with a three-run, first-inning home run and the Saints easily moved into the Section 3A-North finals with a 15-1 win over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Thursday.

MURDOCK - Courtney Olson set the tone with a three-run, first-inning home run and the Saints easily moved into the Section 3A-North finals with a 15-1 win over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Thursday.

Haylie Helms also doubled in two runs in the Saints’ five-run first.

The Saints recorded 13 of 15 outs on the arm of Erin Haglund, who allowed just two hits and two walks.

Haglund was a 7-for-7 in two games on Thursday, and she tripled and drove in a run against the Warriors.

Sam Gjerde was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Helms, Sam Dunn, Olson all had two hits.

The Saints, now 19-0, play Wabasso at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview in Cottonwood.

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross broke the game open with a four-run third inning and cruised to the win in Murdock.

Katherine Budke was 3-for-5 and drove in four runs for the Warriors.

LQPV’s Megan Wildung was 2-for-4.

Dunn also had three hits and drove in four runs and Erin Haglund was 4-for-4 and drove in a pair.

Andrea Lee singled home Justine Flattum in the bottom of the seventh to cap an 8-run rally and lift Dawson-Boyd over BOLD in the Section 3A-North quarterfinals Thursday.

The Blackjacks entered the inning trailing 10-3 and proceeded to bat around on 3 walks, 5 hits and an error.

Andrea Lee, Nicole Jurgenson and Hailey Mork each had 2 hits, and Flattum doubled and drove in 2 runs.

BOLD ended its season 3-13, and the Blackjacks improved to 11-5.

Section 5A-West

ACGC 8, Osakis 1

GLENWOOD - Senior Sydney Larson went 4-for-4 at the plate and threw a six-hitter from the circle to propel Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City to an 8-1 win over Osakis Thursday.

The win in the semifinal round of Section 5A-West puts the Falcons against Eden Valley-Watkins back at Minnewaska High School at 1 p.m. today.

If the Falcons win they move to Tuesday at Whitney Park for the 5A final four. If they lose, they would play again today vs the Silverstreaks or Browerville in an elimination game.

Whatever, it’s a big day for six Falcon seniors who graduate this evening.

ACGC scored in every inning but the first. Peyton Wilner doubled twice and Natasha Dallmann had two more of the team’s 13 hits.

Larson walked four and fanned four; the Osakis run was unearned.

NL-Spicer 1

Montevideo scrubbed New London-Spicer 10-1 in the elimination round of 3AA-North fastpitch but then fell 10-1 to Redwood Valley in double-elim on Thursday on the Thunder Hawks home fields.

The Hawks face Worthington at 11 a.m. Saturday in Marshall, loser eliminated.

Kiersti Grey tossed a 4-hitter and the Cats’ run in the first inning was unearned.

Hitting leader Kelsey Olson tripled twice and singled.

The score was 3-1 through six but then the Valley girls scored 7 in the top of the seventh. Errors were a contributing factor. The Hawks had eight in the game.

The Cardinals eliminated Cedar Mountain 17-7 in five innings in the first round.
