MURDOCK - The Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg softball team ran its record to 14-0, but it wasn’t easy.

The Saints downed MACCRAY 9-4 in the first game of a Camden Conference doubleheader on Thursday, and the Saints held onto the edge the Wolverines in a second game that was ended after five innings because of rain and darkness.

In the first game, Kalli Forsell was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs and Sam Gjerde also had three hits and had an RBI.

Taylor Rasmusson, Sadie Sulier and Alison Krieger all had two hits. Krieger got the win, working a complete game.

MACCRAY’s Jen Sommers was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs and Emily Wrede had two hits.

In Game Two, the Saints scored five runs in the second inning to overcome the Wolverines’ one-run lead. MACCRAY scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings but couldn’t make up enough ground.

The Wolverines’ Laura Hauser had three hits and drove in three runs and Kim Trulock was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, and Kali Groen also was 2-for-3.

KMS’ MiKaylie Hagen was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Forsell had a hit and drove in two runs. Gjerde has two hits but had a rough outing despite getting the win. Sommers took the loss.

Minnewaska 11, Melrose 4

A nine-run first inning was all the Minnewaska softball team needed in an 11-4 West Central Conference victory over Melrose on Thursday.

Melrose’s Kayla Austing hit a first-inning solo home run but it was all Lakers after that.

Allyssa Engfer was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in and Shanae Suchy doubled and drove in two runs. Kacia Kollman and Carley Stewart also had RBIs.

Starter Mady Phillips and reliever Morgan Hess allowed just one earned run and struck out five.

The Lakers are 9-5 overall and play at Sauk Centre at 4 p.m. today.

Benson/Hancock 15, ACGC 11

Benson/Hancock put up a pair of seven-run innings and beat ACGC for its first win of the season.

Krista Motzko doubled and homered, and drove in six runs to lead the BraveOwls.

Addie Forbord earned the win with 4.1 innings pitched and four strikeouts.

Benson/Hancock (1-8) next plays today at YME.
