Prep softball roundup: Willmar splits doubleheader with Apollo

ST. CLOUD -- Megan Rudnick had three hits, including a two-run home run, to lead Willmar to a 12-7 win over St. Cloud Apollo and a split of a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

ST. CLOUD - Megan Rudnick had three hits, including a two-run home run, to lead Willmar to a 12-7 win over St. Cloud Apollo and a split of a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

The Eagles took Game One 11-2.

Rudnick also scored four runs in the second game, and McKenzie Hastad was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Allie Roehl and Jamie Reyes both had a pair of hits, and Jordan Martins and Sarah Stadem both had two RBIs and combined to score four runs.

Stadem and Martins drove in Willmar’s runs in Game One.

The Cardinals play Sartell at 5 p.m. Friday in Willmar to wrap up the Central Lakes Conference season, then play KMS in their final regular-season game  on Monday at Willmar High School.

The New London-Spicer softball team split a doubleheader with Wright County Conference rival Litchfield, including completing a game suspended earlier in the week.

In Game One, NLS’ Taylor Thunstedt was 2-for-4 with a double and Litchfield’s Tasha Stubeda homered and drove in three runs.

 The Wildcats play Mayer Lutheran at 4 p.m. today in New London before opening the Section 3AA playoffs at Marshall on Tuesday.

Ally Jenson was 4-for-5, and Maddie Jensen doubled and tripled in an 11-9 slugfest.

LQPV smacked six hits and scored seven runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead early.

Lakeview made it interesting, scoring five runs in a row with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles’ Madeline Patzer retired three in a row on two groundouts and a flyout to end it.

The Saints ran their record to 16-0 by sweeping a doubleheader against Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.

In Game One, Alison Krieger’s two-run double was the big hit in the Saints’ four-run fifth inning.

Krieger had another two-run double in the sixth and she also pitched a two-hitter, striking out five.

Sam Gjerde was 2-for-4 and drove in a run and Shelly Syverson and Lexi Lamecker both were 2-for-3.

The Saints play at Willmar on Monday, then open the section playoffs against the winner of the Lac qui Parle Valley-Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley play-in game on Tuesday in Murdock.

MACCRAY and Lakeview play in Murdock on Tuesday, with the winners meeting later that day, also in Murdock.

The Morris/Chokio-Alberta softball team moved closer to a West Central Conference title with a 7-5 win over Paynesville on Thursday.

Lauren Reimers hit her third home run in two days and her ninth of the season. She was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.

The Tigers spotted pitcher Kayla Pring to a 7-1 lead after two innings, and she finished up for the win.

Chelsey Ehleringer was 2-for-4 with a double.

Paynesville’s Brianna Stang and Allie Stanger both had two hits.

The Tigers play ACGC at 5 p.m. today in Morris.

Minnewaska opened its southern road trip with a win over Renville County West on Thursday afternoon.

After the RCW game, the Lakers traveled to Olivia to take on BOLD.

Allyssa Enger and Kacia Kollman both drove in four runs against RCW and Morgan Hess allowed just one earned run to get the win.

The Jaguars’ Brittany Krogman, Lexi Bakker and Morgan Zaske all drove in runs.

The Jaguars play a doubleheader against Minneota today and open section play against BOLD on Tuesday at Dawson-Boyd.
