Prep Softball: Waska's Paulson hurls perfect game

GROVE CITY -- Minnewaska senior pitcher Laura Paulson threw a perfect game with nine strikeouts as the Lakers blanked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 9-0 in West Central South Conference softball on Friday.

The Lakers remained in a virtual three-way tie for the conference lead with Benson/Hancock and Paynesville, each with two losses.

The best chance at a hit for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City came in the fourth on a hard-hit ball by Anna Wilson that Lakers' center fielder Brooke Falk sprinted to catch in the gap.

Abby Kreitlow led a 13-hit Lakers' offense with three hits and four runs scored. Hayley Blair knocked in two runs. Falk, Jordan Stalker, Jillian Hendrickson and Brook Winter had two hits apiece.

Brennan Hagen singled home Sara Rajewsky from third base with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Ben-son/Hancock.

Taylor Semler, who retired the first 15 Tigers she faced, allowed only an unearned run in the sixth, while finishing with a three-hitter. She fanned nine and walked one.

The win kept Benson/Hancock (11-2, 12-3) in a virtual first-place tie with Paynesville (12-2, 14-3) and Minnewaska (13-2, 16-3).

Rajewsky tripled leading off the bottom of the eighth. Datrianna Jensen sent a shot down the third-base line, but Haley Henrichs made a backhand stop forcing Rajewsky to hold on third.

Hagen's game-ending hit was the ninth off Mackenzie Weatherly, who stranded nine Brave/Owl runners.

Holly Amundson, who had singled, scored for Morris to tie the game 1-1 on a delayed steal and a throwing error in the sixth.

B/H scored an unearned run in the second.

With the game tied 2-2, Becca Pauling and Chelsea Larson delivered RBI singles to put Montevideo in front 4-2.

The Thunder Hawks outhit the Sting 14-11. Courtney Schmitt and Karrissa Larson each were 3-for-4.

Lauren Trudel, Ashley Magnuson, Aimee Johnson and Ashly Sneller each were 2-for-4 for Yellow Medicine East.

Shelby Monahan walked none and fanned six to get the win.
