WILLMAR - Cayle Hovland avenged an earlier loss to Brainerd’s Caitlin Steffen, but that was the only bright spot for Willmar Thursday as the Cardinals fell 6-1 in a Central Lakes Conference dual to the visiting Warriors.
Hovland beat Steffen 6-4 6-0 after falling to the Brainerd senior 6-2 6-1 on Sept. 2 in Brainerd.
“Cayle played very strong, attacking with deep, penetrating forehands and finishing off big points at the net,” said Willmar coach Jim Anderson.
The Warriors won the other six matches in straight sets to keep pace with St. Cloud Tech for first place in the CLC.
Willmar has the weekend off and hosts St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday in its last regular-season home match.
